Kinky Boots revisited. A “must see”.

By Michael Reubens

Callum Francis has assumed the lead role of Lola in the Broadway production Kinky Boots along with Andy Kelso as Charlie Price. A definite for tourists and New York residents alike before sadly ending its run on April 7th.

I recently had the pleasure of seeing this bubbly, effervescent and fast-paced musical again after seeing the London production – although Francis was the understudy there, I was unable to see him play the role, so was thrilled to finally see him perform here on the great white-way.

The energy he projected throughout the show was like a road-drill, exciting and non-stop, having the audience sitting at the tip of one’s seat, heart pounding and constantly applauding.

Kinky Boots, the musical, based on the film of the same name, has had productions mounted successfully in the UK, Australia and Canada and points in between.

Bottom line: a moral piece where truth, honesty, sexual orientation and positive energy outweigh negativity, bias and ignorance.

Thank you again to Harvey Fierstein and Cindy Lauper for writing the book, music & lyrics respectively, and to Director Jerry Mitchell, at a time where the world seems unpredictable, a happy and refreshing respite is well timed!
