The New York Times Travel Show 2020

By Michael Reubens

It is the biggest, most lavish and highly anticipated travel & tourism industry conference and exhibition held annually every January in New York City: something for everyone to inform, educate and be amused by at the Jacob K. Javits Center.

The Seminars this year featured panel discussions ranging from Sustainable Tourism to discussions sponsored by South African Tourism and Wildlife Adventures amongst other international exhibits and discussions.

I attended the Focus on Travel Bloggers which I found extremely informative as most moderated panel discussions were during the three-day event.

The Middle East highlighted Business and Leisure trips to Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Latin America included Costa Rica, Cuba, Puerto Rico and Brazil and  hotels, airlines, wedding packages, the L.G.B.T.Q travel  community and plenty of opportunities to win cruises and hotel stays were illustrated throughout. Spokespeople were on hand to answer questions and concerns at every Booth.

I especially enjoyed A conversation with renowned chef, tv host and  author Lidia Bastianich hosted by NY Times Journeys expert, Fred Plotkin. The room was packed and the q&a afterward proved enlightening and informative.

The Perfect Cruise, Traveling the world by oneself to Asia, Europe and Beyond  was both exciting and educational and of course, traveling across the US and its borders to Canada and Mexico seemed fun and full of adventures to come!

Keep in mind traveling for Business or Pleasure always requires due-caution and preparation in advance is obligatory. The current Coronavirus epidemic shouldn’t stop one from global exploration, just be aware of one’s surroundings.
There are innumerable travel fairs, seminars, expos and events year round and around the world but the WTM (World Travel Market) in London and this NY Times Travel Show are my two favorites and always worth exploring.
